Learn how professionals at ASI are leading the charge in shifting perceptions and bettering the quality of life for those experiencing hearing difficulties.
Welcome to 2025. It is a brand new year and we're kicking off a new year of sound advice with audiologist Doug Leonard from ASI, Audiological Services of Iowa. Doug, we often refer to a lot of videos that you post to your Facebook page, things like that. You've got a really great ad. that is appearing right now. Now it's for Apple AirPod 2. And just a great message that really drives home the fact that people who have a hearing loss are really missing out. And they use Christmas as the background to really drive it home.
Yeah, it's a great ad. And I would encourage folks, if they're listening to our program, to get on our Facebook page and check it out. But it's, you know, Apple is trying to dabble in the hearing care world. And so they're promoting the use of AirPods, some version of them, to use for hearing assistance. And so it's the ad centers around that. It's a gentleman that, younger gentleman, of course, first of all, I would say. that is suffering some hearing loss. And it kind of does some back and forth clips with his daughter and different Christmas activities that they've done throughout the year. And, you know, they do a great job of muffling the sound and then making it more clear again to kind of simulate what he's really going through suffering from his untreated hearing loss.
Yeah, that's what struck me, first of all, is it's hard to understand what somebody who has a hearing loss is going through. That ad really, really got that across very well.
It does. And, you know, the thing that I like, number one, again, besides the emotional side of it, they're featuring a younger person, younger gentleman. I mean, his daughter towards the end of the ad is probably, you know, a youngish teen, maybe 15, 16 years old. And so he's probably, I don't know what, 40, 45 maybe. And we absolutely every day in the clinic or every week in the clinic see people coming in who are younger. Most folks don't think of hearing impaired individuals as 40 to 45 to 50 years old. But we see tons of folks that do that all the time and they're being very proactive about their hearing care.
You know, it's not a coincidence they use the child either, because you tend to lose your high pitch range first, I'm assuming. So, you know, that's a child's voice.
That's your grandchild's voice. It is. And that's how we get, you know, we get so many spouse referrals sometimes, meaning the spouse is nagging the other one with hearing loss to come in and have a hearing evaluation. We get it a lot also because of the fear of missing out on what your kids and what your grandkids are going through and being around and being involved in their lives.
They oversimplify the fact that he just pops them in and everything is great. So that's a little bit of an oversimplification there.
Yeah, it's true. And, you know, not really promoting my competition necessarily. And we'll talk about this maybe later on this month. But there are some applications, I think, for that. But, yeah, it's a great ad. It really, as you said, it explains to people what it's like for a person to go through life with hearing loss. And it's devastating.
It gives them a great example, but it doesn't explain to them everything that's going on. That's where you come in. Audiologists come in to help you understand and to really treat the core root of your problem. Doug, if they want to come in and talk about this ad or any other issues that they're having with their hearing, you'd love to talk to them.
Yeah, we'd love the same here in 2025. So the phone number here is 792-5933.
