Iowa State's recent rise to #12 in the AP poll is a testament to their strong start, but it's an undeniable snub that they aren't in the top 10. While they are now the highest-ranked Big 12 team, a higher placement is justified when you compare them to teams like Texas and LSU, who are ranked above them. Iowa State's 4-0 record, including two wins over ranked rivals, is far more impressive than the resumés of some of the teams ranked ahead of them.
Texas, currently ranked #8, has a less-than-stellar 2-1 record and a struggling offense led by quarterback Arch Manning. They've dropped from their preseason #1 ranking after a loss and a few unimpressive wins. Meanwhile, LSU at #3 has an offense that has looked inconsistent, with coach Brian Kelly even getting visibly frustrated about their performance in a 20-10 win over Florida.
Iowa State's resiliency and consistent performance against quality opponents should earn them a spot in the top 10. They've shown they can win tough games, which is more than can be said for teams like Texas and LSU. The AP poll often rewards name recognition over on-field results, and this is a clear example. Iowa State's strong start has been overlooked, and it's high time they get the respect they've earned. They should be in the top 10, no question.
